Location: Il Vittoriale degli Italiani

Exhibition:

EFFORTLESS EFFORT

Inaugurata nella sua sede definitiva l’opera scultorea di ABELE VADACCA  ‘D’Annunzio il poeta dall’animo leggero’. The presentation of the work by the artist Abele Vadacca dedicated to the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio is part of a context of great importance; from March 15th, it will find its definitive home at the Auditorium of the Vittoriale, reopened after recent restoration work and presented in all its new splendor. It is the poet himself who expresses his very intense relationship with sculpture and in particular his obsession with Michelangelo, famous for the phrase: ‘The thought of Michelangelo overwhelms me,’ to whom he compared himself in many aspects.

Giordano Bruno Guerri President of the Vittoriale degli Italiani

"The work is very beautiful; on March 15, 3026—a thousand years from now—it will still be there, because the Vittoriale will still be here.

Increasingly rich in works, and as you see we pass from the digital to Marble and this seems to me very significant of our activity and of our life, and of D’Annunzio who would be very happy with this celebration of ours between past and future."

Rodolfo Bona, Councillor for Culture of the Municipality of Cremona:
"I like very much that there is Mario Coppetti who is an author who was born in 1913 and there is this connection with a sculptor, Abele Vadacca, who is still young and who still practices an ancient art, with many things still to say."

The work, created by the artist in his studio in Bellagio (on Lake Como) in polychrome marbles – Italian White P from the Apuan Alps and French Rouge de Griotte – and produced in 2015, represents a milestone in his collection as a sculptor.

The work represents the mature artistic path of Abele Vadacca, a marble sculptor par excellence; he experiences flight as an aircraft pilot; and he bases his work on the solid tradition of Italian "bottega" art, expressing himself with a technical virtuosity that transpires from his works. The subject, the poet, dear to him by definition, has been the object of other artistic interventions and is represented surrounded by light sheets of paper. Vadacca’s art focuses on the externalization of the method that allows him to represent symbolic and sometimes metaphysical themes. The sculpture, apparently classical, reveals all the dynamism in tribute to one of the greatest artistic periods in history: Futurism. The rear part highlights the use of the artist's compositional signature, the feather in white marble he symbol par excellence of freedom and resourcefulness. Quoting the poet, we could say that ‘I have what I have given’ (Io ho quel che ho donato) and the acquisition of Abele’s portrait as a permanent work in the artistic collection of the Vittoriale degli Italiani well transfers this concept a hundred years later.

Because art has always been a symbol of freedom and democracy.
